Servicing Our Clients

We are here for you.  In many cases our clients need something "strange".  If you can google for a solution and find one, then you dont need us.  But if you keep finding things that are close but just not right...  That is where we come in.

For example.  A new client called.  They get big PDF Files sent to them.  But each page should be a separate PDF so they can put it in the proper place in the electronic filing cabinet.  They have about 10 users who do this job.  There is a WORKABLE solution from the internet (Acrobat Pro is $450/user, Some shareware was $75/user).  They felt this was too much, and were afraid of the costs when they expand.  We wrote a workable solution in 2hrs (PDF files are one of our specialties).  They have a right to use it on as many computers as they want.  At $300...  That is about $30/user for a custom solution.  It is a one time fee.  Use the software for life.  We even told them how to wire it into the SendTo Folder to make using it trivial.

A different client had an Oracle bottleneck for the last 5 years.  They had paid MANY consultants to come in and fix it.  Each said they could.  None did.  When we came in we did not say we could fix it.  We said first we will have to identify its cause.  Only then will we have a chance to fix it.  We agreed to mitigate their risk.  If we couldnt find the cause, we capped our bill at 5hrs, but we needed the go ahead to spend whatever time it took to find the cause.  It took almost 40 hours.  It was not an Oracle problem.  It was a problem with a Cobol Library file they were using.  When they asked for 5 fields on 10,000 rows, this code was bringing back 200 fields for 10,000 rows, and asking Oracle to do it in the worse possible way.  Everyone before us focused on Oracle or the Cobol program that was running.  We focused on identifying the root cause, and working back to where it came from.  Yep, it was HOW Cobol was calling Oracle.  But it was not the main Cobol program.  It was a shortcut someone took in shared code.  Which, of course, means that the problem is rampant throughout the system.
